Between two fires by Christopher Buehlman

Let’s say it right away, this book is one of the best reads I have ever had. I was hooked after the first chapter until the last sentence. If you are looking for a happy story, don’t read this book because it is grimdark, really dark. The author did his homework and it is historically accurate, he also succeeded to add something related to fantasy based on Judeo-Christian mythology. And there is no fun, every chapter is almost a succession of miserable situations, miserable people, living in a miserable time where superstition, death, suspicion, and disease rule civilization. Also in this book, I love the characters because there absolutely all imperfect, there are no heroes in this book. It is not a real spoiler but there are a lot of demons in this story and Buehlman describes them as Jerome Bosch painted them. The story is pretty solid as the dialogues are good, sharp, and entertaining. If you are looking for a book based on medieval times with a grimdark setting, well don’t look after another one.
